The Midas Touch Poem by Nuala Lee

The Midas Touch

I sat in the classroom
The women talked.

They talked of many things,
Dying eyelashes, sunbeds, facials,
Mascara smudging the face,
-Dallas women waking up
Looking good in the morning.

One of them had a real gold nail,
Very long;
-A thing of pride.

I sat there with my naked face,
Unfiled nails, wild hair,
My dreams of what's natural
Confused,
And crushed
By the Midas Touch
