The Miracle Of A Tree Poem by Geody Harman

The Miracle Of A Tree

The Horse, the Camel, the Donkey and the Tree
Were all gathered near to the magic set free.

The horse is a creature of great stature true,
The rippling flesh and their manes with their plumes.

The Camel a creature of safety for some,
Their special abilities also are fun!

The Donkey a creature of burdensome tasks,
To carry a load like a bundle of flasks.

But what do these creatures have in common you say!
Well that is the story we will tell here today.

The Donkey was traveling a road to the west,
The burden he carried, just a bundle of vests.

He rounded the corner and saw the great oak,
Where a tree was nearby there be water to soak.

So he rambled towards the great tree with his hope,
While he led his companion attached by the rope.

The camel was traveling from the high desert pass,
A load of the finest blown, colored new glass.

His belly was empty his water was low,
But ahead he could see the great oak near the road.

The horse was just bearing a young man from Brisk,
A village of farmers who were east of the disk.

The rider was slumped on the back of his haunch,
But young child wanted some shade for his lunch.

The boy spied the oak with its branches bent low,
A nice shaded place he could rest, he could go.

The oak was a sacred tree, guarded by Fenn,
The sprite kings own son, who was king of his den.

The animals closed in toward their retreats,
Each seeking something, to rest from the heat.

But what they would find was a miracle true,
And this is that story, the story of frew.

The horse was the first one to bear up it's pack,
The young lad was happy to find shade and a snack.

For the base of the oak tree was covered with fur,
Well, in truth is was moss that was fuzzy for sure.

But right near the moss on the creeks edge were shrooms,
Their heads pressing upward, their tops were all groomed.

He wasted no time filling up his small pot,
And he built up a flame in a small sheltered spot.

As the boy and the horse were waiting for stew,
Along came the camel his owner his crew.

The boy then looked up and the man then looked down,
But smiles soon appeared, not a smirk or a frown.

The animals gazed in the spot of their eyes,
Assessing their station, breathing in sighs.

Along came the Donkey his owner in tow,
She smiled and she whistled her countenance glowed.

She took up a spot near the creaks edge with speed,
Allowing her donkey to rest like a steed.

Now the story seems harmless and soon takes a twist,
So gather in closely hold hands near the wrist.

The young prince was watching these travelers here,
He sat perched in branches and leaves he revered.

He said with a loud voice that sounded with chimes,
Why have you come forth to commit these foul crimes.

The people looked shocked the animals too,
This voice they just heard was the voice of a shrew.

The squeeking furthered by these words of fire,
You have come here destroying my sisters fair ire'!

The girl then glanced up to the branch over head
and noticed a leaf was not living but dead.

She curiously reached out to pull it away,
When the young prince replied, I will sentence today!

The young girl then reached out and plucked off the leaf,
Reveling a young sprite then perched like a thief.

Her gasp was the spark of a flame of new sights,
As the people and animals spied his bright light.

The young prince stood proud on the branch over head,
I have sentenced you all to be killed and be dead.

His words to the people and animals too,
Again sounded like they were squeaks from a shrew.

What are you? the young girl replied in a flash,
What creature, what wonder! Then the creek spewed a splash.

It was Frew on a flying fish bursting to air,
She was glamorous too with her long flowing hair.

Her brilliance was twice as bright being a queen,
Her lights were entrancing to him like a dream.

The young girl, the man and the boy gasped in fright,
As the queen burst to view in her dazzling light.

But the horse and the donkey and the camel stayed still,
They were friends with the wee folk they were calm in their will.

The tree was the only one who could impart,
The gift of the nature queen right from the start.

So the oak bowed her limbs to the queen as she flew,
And then sent forth her magic to the then tongue tied shrew.

He could talk, they would hear, so then what would he say,
To the people and animals gathered to play.

The queen broke the silence as her mount let her fly,
He returned to the creek underneath the fine sky.

She said people and animals gathered for rest,
I am Frew of the wee folk queen of the west.

The young man wasn't speaking the old man kept his mind,
The young lady said nicely, Are you here by design?

But of course said the queen, with a flash of her light,
I am here to escort you, to a beautiful sight.

You are here to escort me, and where should we go?
Said the young maid now interested in the light show.

Yes my young friends and animals, travel with me,
To the home of the wee folk within this great tree.

The old man and young man were caught in a fright,
And fell to the earth from the dazzling light.

The queen then replied with a hum and a sigh,
They have fallen and cannot come, this is too by design.

Well I guess it's just meant for the women this day,
So come close and touch my hand... we go to play.

The young girl the donkey, the camel and horse,
Came to touch her light gently it was soothing not course.

As they touched her bright aura her own power was spent,
And they all shrunk right down and then carefully went.

The pathway inside the oak was hard to see,
Even when she went in to the bark of the tree.

So she waved forth her own hands and they followed her near,
To the city of wee folks, where their are no tears.

Within the great oak there was wonder for sure,
Their was magic about all around them and pure.

The young lass and animals wonder in awe,
At the sights of the wee folk in their magical straw.

Yet time it flew by with the fastest of speed,
The young girl and the animals found in the tree.

The queen was a fine host the animals fed,
The water was special it's powers unshed.

They left with a new hope of magic and love,
And saw sky darkened as they looked up above.

The young girl then took her friend and went her way,
And the horse with it's rider soon left for the day.

But the camel and tree and the man with the glass,
Stayed a whole week beside the tree, eating the grass.

Then they went their way also, bearing up this fine tale,
Of the Animals and the girl blessed by its spell.

So you see my fine friends who are still here with me,
There is magic when looked for in every tree.
