The Hummingbirg Poem by Geody Harman

The Hummingbirg

In the springtime of the year as the dews of the morning light,
Yield their strength to the hills and grass, there is a wondrous sight!

It's a little thing that flits and flirts, as it flies in it's course of life.
oblivious to the world around, it seems to be devoid of strife!

But if you look closely to it's world you will see it has ups and downs!
Events that bring a smile wide or those that bring a frown!

It's the humming bird with energy brim, it's wings so fast and fair!
It hovers near a hill of green, it holds its place in the still born air!

Such beauty and such grace we see in the manner of it's flight!
It gathers it's nectar quickly too, and in our plainest sight!

But what of the hummingbirds in life, they flitter and they flirt!
They move from beauty all around they seem to hover over life's dirt!

What do we do when they prick our hearts and suddenly are gone!
Do we mourn their passing from our view, or bask in the beauty of their dawn?

I hope that we see their gifts in the light that they brought in the moment they came!
I hope that you wish them love in life, and shelter from life's rain!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
When writing this I began to see the meaning of the poem unfurl. We have many people we will meet in this life and with them a flood of emotions and energy. Some are like this hummingbird. They flash into our lives and stir up emotions of wonder and awe but seem to pass like a fleeting wind... Don't miss out on sharing with the hummingbirds of your life the depth of the buried love you have stored up.
