The Mirror Of My Mind Poem by chris schwartz

The Mirror Of My Mind

Rating: 4.5

Looking into the mirror
All the circles under my eyes
Of my troubled past.
Still trying to cover
All the story lines
All the wrinkles
Can't seem to shed
The story
The pride and glory
Of my years.

Find myself escaping
To my youth
The refreshing time
When life was so simple
Close my eyes
Feel young again
Still hear the screams
From the tilt-a-whirl
Dictating to me
What my life
Has become.

And you think
You might know me?
Hell, I don't even
Know myself.
But I give you a medal
For everyone else
Has put me on a shelf.
But you still don't
Know me
You still don't know me.
Because I know me
Too well.

Dig deep
My tarnished friend
You will find too
That there is no end
But hell, I am so glad
I had you
To ride out the wave.

And you think
That you might
Know me?
Hell I don't even
Know myself.
But I give you
A medal.
For everyone else
Has put me
On a shelf.
But you still
Don't know me
Because I know
All of me,
Too well.
