The Monster Inside Me Poem by Karissa Earley

The Monster Inside Me

The sky reflects my eyes,
As it slowly starts to rain.
Inside I begin to realize,
Nothing will ever be the same.

Mountain after mountain,
I begin to climb.
Trying to reach the top,
I'm running out of time.

The anguish in my heart,
I feel with every beat.
Trying to make it numb,
Trying to make it obsolete.

Running on bare feet,
Trying to get away.
From a past I cannot change,
It reminds me everyday.

I'm trying to close my eyes,
So your face I will not see.
In the reflection in the mirror,
I see you inside of me.

I speak from your lips,
And see from your eyes.
And out of our ears,
I hear all your lies.

I sew my lips shut,
Glue both my eyes.
I cant get rid of you,
Despite all my cries.

Your face is stuck on mine,
A horror too unreal.
Forever burdened by,
A truth I cant conceal.
