The Neighbors Poem by Martin Paul Patton

The Neighbors

Rating: 5.0

I just saw the new neighbors
They moved in last week
They look like the usual pair
The husband has five heads
The wife has but four
And the kids all have snakes in thier hair

It's not that I mind them
They've done nothing wrong
But i'm watching them all just in case
It just seems to me
That neighbors like this
Might be something from far out in space

I hate being judgmental

I don't like to pry
But all of my neighbors are weird
Mr. Richardson two houses down
Raises platypus right in his beard

And accross the street at the Carter house
I can see Mrs. C washing her hair
At first glance this is not so suspicious
But if you look close
You can see Mrs. C isn't there

Mr. Percival W. Brock
Who lives down the block
I've been watching him more than the rest
I think He's probably the leader
He might be gaurding the nest

I'm gonna keep watching
I don't think I can stop
But...What if someone is watching me back
What if I am the one who looks different
Living narrowly peering through cracks

Tomorrow's a new day
I'm turning a leaf
I'm living and let live
I can feel the relief
Perhaps I'll go knocking
And see for myself
If my neighbors are monsters
Or weirdos or stealth

I just might make new friends
You never can tell
But I'm bringing my uzzi
With plenty of shells

Wish me luck...
