The New Assessment Poem by Alfred Ramos

The New Assessment

When the morning sun arrives I will sit on the moist grass and bathe in his warm light
Resting my weary soul after chasing more wrong than right
That tantalizing ball of fire sprung up like a jack in the box
And it scattered all around the dry sand leaving the playground looking like a face with chicken pox
And the shadows slowly slipped away like a sly fox
Leaving me with the sad feeling of being lost
Not knowing the price of serenity would be the final cost
No matter, I have hope and I will rip the web that binds me
Even if a river of tears finds me
I will navigate this river and follow the sunset
And keep searching for that dream I haven't found yet
Listening to the early morning birds call
A melancholy shrill that ricochets off the pines so tall
While the fog lifts from the lake in the morning stillness
Misty memories ripple across the smoky water like an old illness

I walk softly over the wet grass, as the sun appears over the snow capped mountains
Flashes of light fill the sky like brilliant magic water fountains
The lake reflecting the sunlight, welcomes the wildlife that slowly come to the edge to drink
And it’s the beauty of nature I don't want to miss, so I keep my mind in sync
It humbles me to see the peace of nature all around me
A brand new day never ceases to astound me
like the sun I gain strength and follow the trail
Engulfing me in so much grace I don't need a wind to fill my sail
After climbing the hill, I look down at a green valley
Exposing an Eden for which I have no key
I shout to the heavens, hoping he will hear my plea
and like magic a path opens for me
I dropp to my knees with folded hands and an open heart
letting the sun glory shine upon me
I don't know what tomorrow will bring
But if it's anything like today it will make my heart sing
