A gentle splash, a watery friend,
Boric water, then, without end.
For cuts and scrapes, a clean embrace,
To wash away, and heal the space.
For eyes that wept, a soothing sight,
To bring them clear, and make them bright.
On angry skin, a cool relief,
To calm the flush, and end the grief.
But time moved on, and knowledge grew,
A hidden danger, shining through.
If skin was weak, or open wide,
Too much could creep, and get inside.
For babies small, and children dear,
Absorption brought a silent fear.
So laws were made, the use took flight,
No longer seen, in morning light.
And lead water, a partner too,
With lead inside, a toxic brew.
For swellings down, and wounds to mend,
Its dangers known, brought it to end.
Now other ways, we seek to find,
For healing touch, of a safer kind.
The old solutions, left behind,
For better care, for humankind.
