The Older, The Tougher Poem by Stewart Gideon

The Older, The Tougher

Today is my birthday
I wasn’t this age last year
And as I’m getting older
So I get somewhat tougher

No longer feeding on milk
Or wrapped all over with silk
But getting ready to eat tough meat
As much as my new age will remit

Not receiving candies for gift
Rather inspiring words so brief
Prayers and special wishes
Preparing me for future challenges

Today is my birthday
But the question is not put the same way
Not only how far in age I’ve reached
But also what within this period I’ve achieved

My age has just witnessed an increase
So also have my tasks and necessities
And I’m not expected to complain about them
But to boast in their accomplishment

My age has increased by one
And the call for me to be bold and strong
Is becoming more and more louder
Cos everyone knows that the older, the tougher
