The Pastor And The King Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

The Pastor And The King

A quiet church in Arkansas,
A preacher takes the stage,
He sings a song of faith and love,
And turns another page.

He has a rich and southern voice,
A smile that looks so grand,
It makes folks think of yesterday,
And Memphis, through the land.

They watch the videos online,
And say the King is back,
That he just faked his passing down
Upon a railroad track.

They say his eyes, his songs, his face
Are all the self-same man,
Who left the flashing lights behind
To lead a quiet clan.

Yet Pastor Bob has spoken out,
And begged them all to stop,
To leave the silly stories be,
And let the rumor drop.

For Elvis left this world in grief,
In nineteen seventy-seven,
While Bob was born much later on,
With roots that God has given.

His life is clear, his past is known,
A husband and a guide,
A minister who shares the word,
With Jesus at his side.

Two different men, two different lives,
Though songs may sound the same,
Let Pastor Bob just preach and pray,
And leave behind the game.
