The People Poem by Bancroft Boreland

The People

Rating: 4.0

They live in a world where
Happiness is imprisoned and freedom is a stranger
The government is like an impostor
And death is their unpredictable neighbor
They are thirsty for peace but their bodies
Are so dry that they cannot even cry
They are tired of life and often wish to die
They pray but blessings they are yet to receive
Does the creator not see their need?
Courage has deserted them
So they know only fear
This arduous life they can no longer endure
Life is a poison and they want no more
They cry for help but its like
Playing music to a deaf audience

So who among us can give the people hope?
Who will fight the oppressors and be a hero?
Is there no one to lead so that they may follow?
Will you help them to have a better tomorrow?
Can anyone, will anyone help the people?
