The Perfect 'What If' Poem by Jane Han

The Perfect 'What If'

Here we said our last goodbyes
We walked away like adults
But we cry alone like children
I know you wished you could have kissed me instead
And you know I wish I could do the same
We could fall in love all over again
We could take it to your bed
We could make love like we did yesterday
And we could take away all of the pain
But we won't do what our hearts say
Such is the human brain wired to over think
The perfect 'what ifs' all gone to waste
So in my heart you will forever stay
And it kills me inside when that is all I can say

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Just like any other two people, they decided to part their ways. Two people who once loved each other so, who once had so much faith, now their love all gone to waste. Past mistakes, things said and done, neither can put it all down. So it's best to leave it behind even though that's not what they really want.
