The Pirate Poem by John Bliven Morin

The Pirate

Yo ho! for the life of a pirate bold,
With a cutlass sharp and heart so cold,
And a wealth of treasure in the hold;
Ho! Yo ho!

Yo ho! for a ship so sleek and fast,
With the Jolly Roger on the highest mast;
When we see a galleon we cry “Avast! ”
Ho! Yo ho!

Yo ho! for the guns that roar like thunder,
Tearing that treasure ship asunder;
Now we can board and take our plunder;
Ho! Yo ho!

Yo ho! for the life of the buccaneer;
A fighting man who shows no fear,
‘Cause if he does, we remove his ear;
Ho! Yo ho!

Yo ho! You’ll pardon us for being vain;
We seek our prizes on the Spanish Main,
Then homeward with ill-gotten gain;
Ho! Yo ho!

Yo ho for pirates such as we;
A dissipated life is our destiny,
Though it may be short, it will be free;
Ho! Yo ho!
