The Poem Before Shabbat Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Poem Before Shabbat

The poem before Shabbat
Wanted to be a happy one-

It wanted to be one in which all preparations made
And the mind able to rest and forget-

The poem before Shabbat
Wanted to leave the world of the everyday behind
And move to another realm
Of Sanctity and Peace-

The poem before Shabbat
Wanted to be on the verge
Of a new soul a new world
Of Joy and Peace-
Of Shabbat.
