The Poet Poem by Edward Grey

The Poet

Here I sit
Doing the last thing I thought I’d ever do
Writing this poem for you

I never liked poems
I thought they were bland
But my imagination has had time to expand

It is not unmanly
To express the truth
It makes you stronger and helps to soothe
The man inside you

I am sentimental
That is for sure
But I’m better for it
Are you

Weakness is not from feeling
But from refusing to express
What is really inside you
Is the absolute best

So here I sit
Writing as fast as I can
Trying to express the true value of a man
Being sentimental
Even being sad
Makes you better

For it can help you
Do what you would not
It makes you bold
It makes you strong
It looses those bonds you have had for so long

It frees you to act as you should
To be chivalrous
To be courtieous
To be braver than any man could

The more you express
The truth inside you
The more you can act
The more you can do

Do not be shy
Don’t be afraid
Let your self out
Step into the light
Show the truth
And be the hero inside
