The Populars Poem by Lauren Ellis Leung

The Populars

Driven by adoration and envy,
Each morning you paint your face to the latest trend,
Hiding your impurities and imperfections.

Toothpick thin,
A barbie doll,
Complete with your perfect match,
Ken.

You have it all,
With your steaks set high,
How can I let it fly?
You're too flawless,
Could it be you're buried deep in insecurity,
To most it would seem unlikely,
But if you look closer you will see.

I've been there,
Done that..

How did we get to be that way?
Needing everyone's eyes to feel okay,
For everyone to agree with,
Believe in,
Depend on,
And live for us?

Our pasts has secrets left untold,
Left behind,
Out in the cold.

In the end are we really the perfect ones,
Or are we really the ones that are messed up?

We need to overcome our flaws,
Learn to accept them,
Not cover them in a mask of MAC.
Others may say you're wrong in doing so,
They might just be living a lie as well.

If people say things to bring you to your knees,
I'll catch you somehow.
