The Potency Of Love Poem by Kingsley Egbukole

The Potency Of Love

Rating: 5.0

What is it in love
That compels a prudent man
To act in strange ways
That seem foolish to the normal?

Why does love render our senses
Impotent and malfunctional
Devoid of rational thinking
To do what ordinarily we will not do?

Why does love put a shield on our eyes
Making us shortsighted and unable to see
Beyond the assumed gold before us
Which later may become rust iron?

Why does love seal our ears
Making us deaf to the voice of reason
To hear only the sweet nothings
That later may turn to fallacy?

Why does love open our mouth carelessly
That we become too flippant
To blab endearments and promises
Which we may be unable to fulfil?

However, regardless of the shortcomings
The foolishness of love is sweet
Revealing the tenderness of the heart
To render all susceptible to its potency
Except the love be infatuated.

Love is a celebratory time of life when all is turned upside down. As you show, it reveals the potency of tenderness. To feel its magic touch on ordinary days is a blessing.

A wonderful poem that depicts the intricacies and power of love. Yes, love has its own course but we have a mind to tame it. Beautifully crafted and expressed.
