The Prestige Poem by Kathryn Garner

The Prestige

Rating: 0.5

give me back the lines
im just another dressed up
drug out lie
waiting to prestige
waiting for the curtain to die
and for the people to leave

ive got a trick
hidden in my sleeve
its lying in the sick
noose, to let my life leave
and let my life decieve
you by the eye
with my final bow
my final goodbye

ill give you lights
action
a play
with the promise
that a part of me will stay
trapped here wasted to and by death
till time gives me the rest
of my former self
till im finally myself

set and stubborn to die
rather than live a drug out lie
with breath
seeping from this hole im my chest
where part of me
used to be
till it escaped and now im gone
while the wilting rest of me
goes wrong

ill hide from the world
in an illusion
hide from the intrusion
into my being
hiding behind what your really not seeing
misplace by the thing ive become
strung out by the lies ive done
waiting for my final fall
when the people will leave
and my lie will die
with the prestige

Stardom and it's pitfalls, very, very real. Was 1991 the year you wrote this? I'm very much looking forward to more of your writings.
