The Promised Land. Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

The Promised Land.

The world began, a brand new start,
With light and land, and beating heart.
From Adam's time to Noah's ark,
Then Babel's tower, a foolish mark.

Then Abraham, a man of might,
From Ur he came, to Canaan's light.
God called him out, with words so clear,
'Leave all you know, and have no fear.'

To a new land, God showed the way,
'Your seed will grow, like stars each day.
This land is yours, for them to keep, '
A promise deep, while others sleep.

But famine came, and forced a turn,
To Egypt's plenty, they did learn.
Then back to Canaan, land so fair,
With Lot nearby, a watchful stare.

Though Sodom fell, and fires burned bright,
Abraham stayed, with all his might.
In Hebron's earth, a home he found,
A sacred cave, on hallowed ground.

There Abraham rests, his journey done,
A holy site, for everyone.
A king met him, a priest of peace,
In Salem's town, his fame increased.

Some say his test, a son so dear,
Was on a hill, dispelling fear.
A place of prayer, through ages passed,
A sacred spot, designed to last.

Though history's page, his life may hide,
His faith shines on, a faithful guide.
For Jew and Christian, Muslim too,
A friend of God, forever true.
