The Proud Rooster. Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

The Proud Rooster.

A herald clad in amber light,
He shakes away the velvet night.
With copper feathers, burnished bold,
And comb of ruby, fierce and old.

He stands upon the fencepost high,
To challenge all the morning sky.
A living flame, a brazen shout,
To drive the shadows-silence out.

With stately walk and scarlet crest,
Puffed pride upon his armored breast.
He preens his iridescent green,
The finest king the yard has seen.

His voice a trumpet, sharp and shrill,
Resounding over field and hill.
With gallant stance and vigilant eye,
He wakes the dawn, as light draws nigh.

A proud sentinel, a king of sound,
Where dawn and rooster-fire are found.
No greater lord in plumage bright,
Than he who brings the morning light.

The Proud Rooster.
