The Pursuit Of Happiness Poem by Prandy Clark Banawan

The Pursuit Of Happiness

We thought we'll live forever
When all of us were young,
As sun would keep on rising
Till all our songs be sung.

The future looks to us like
Road that stretched unbroken;
Extending endlessly
Before our wide eyes open.

However when we grow,
Getting older as we go,
The more we tend to look back
And marvel at this show.

The memories we miss
Will wet our cheeks with tears.
That road is really short
And quick as the passing years.

Then we begin to think
About the choices we've made,
And things that we have done
With the process that was laid.

Memories that were sweet
Will give joy to the heart.
But also there are those
We wish we could depart.

The lessons that we've learned
Upon our daily ventures,
Are precious we hold dear
More than brilliant treasures.

Success can't be measured
By being above others,
Nor can it be assured
By climbing lofty ladders.

Though often it allures;
For the earth will loud it's fame.
It barely will amount
To our God's eternal aim.

Let us live a good life;
With service our life be filled.
Bring to pass much righteousness
Not forced instead we willed.

Our Father knows us more
Than we do know ourselves.
He sees our real potential
Than human research delves.

Devote not so much time
To things that are so fleeting.
They're trivial and transient;
For only good beginning.

It's wiser if we lay up
Our treasures in the heaven.
That can't be corrupted
Nor can it be stolen.

Walk not where Jesus walk,
But walk the way He did.
It's how that really matters
And not the place He hid.

Upon our daily lives,
Let's follow what He taught:
By truly loving God
And neighbors in deed and thought.

It is discipleship -
The pursuit of holiness;
The path to our best self;
Which leads to happiness.

The more we devote ourselves
To what our Savior sets,
The less likely we will be
On a path to regrets.

Rely more on the Lord's grace
Which always supports our back.
And more we will feel that
We are on our Father's track.

Sometimes in life we focused
To reach that lovely valley.
That's why we fail to find
The joy along the journey.

Wait not to be happy till
We reach some future event,
Only to find happiness
Was there every moment.

Life is not meant to be
Enjoy in retrospect
'This is the day which the Lord
Hath made'. Make the most of it.

Perhaps we should be looking
Less based on what we see,
And more with what we feel
Whatever they may be.

One sees clearly only
With the heart. (That defy lies)
Anything essential is
Invisible to the eyes.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was reading a talk from the leaders of my Church and it inspired me a lot. The title of the talk was 'Of Regrets and Resolutions' by Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf. It is also my gift to myself for my birthday.
