The Radiant Child Poem by Harlequin Rose

The Radiant Child

I fear this time
might be the last time
for this radiant child
she has not yet learned to live
so she loves with reckless abandon
she takes the broken soul she was given
and uses it to make the others whole
she tries so hard to fly
but her wings are saturated with the sweat
of fallen angels
she tells them so many lies
she sheds so many tears
her reflection haunts her
for she does not recognize
the woman looking back
she has abandoned her god
and so he has abandoned her
left her to fend for herself
and in the drift of the breeze
she hears temptation call
and so she goes
victim of a foolish heart
the battle wages on
between her
and all the close calls
that threaten to destroy her
as she gives her heart away
one more time
and one more time
has it returned to her in pieces
and so only emptiness remains
but it soothes the pain
she will never smile again
though she will surely try
but she treats the darkness like her only friend
she fears nothing in the night
because at night
she can dream
sleep is the only freedom she will ever know
and so she sleeps like a child
peaceful and deep
and radiant....
