The Reef Poem by David P Williams

The Reef

I have cupped the butts of sea mounts
in my hands
and brought the fecund ocean to my lips

I have kissed the pink and soft
fluted reefs
and explored their thousand crevices

I have sent my tongue in search
of the elusive pearl
coaxed from it's soft shell with sea rhythms
swallowing it whole

lingering under sea mount so long
as to be engulfed
in heated lava and bursting bombs

The mount's trembling quake
and aftershocks
brought ecstatic exaltation
