The Rich Fool Poem by Clinton Ekeh

The Rich Fool

Rating: 3.3

I know of a gentleman
Who goes by the name Man
A handsome fellow he was
One loved by all
He was a ladies' man
And money was no qualms

He had a vibrant business
A profit making enterprise
A nice house and fleet of cars
There was no material thing he did lack
He had it all
So he thought

He didn't believe in God
Cos he thought he needed Him not
God to him was merely a made believe tale
He was too wise to fall for such a fable
For he had acquired a lot by himself
He needed no God to ask for help

He would laugh at preachers
To him they were mere jokers
Wasting their precious time
When they should be having a nice time
He was a self made man
The god of his ephemeral life

Until one fateful day
He went for an august party
Hosted by the governor
He was a special guest and was treated as such
He was very merry that lovely night
That he drank till he was high

On his way home
He drove like a lunatic
Then came a fast moving truck
Speeding towards his direction
Before he realized how close it was
He was already doused in the pool of his own blood

Lifelessly laid on the ground
from whose dust he was formed
He died leaving all he had behind
Naked he came, naked he left
To give account to his creator
The creator he thought never existed
