The Role Model Poem by Victor Cruickshank

The Role Model

Imagine how difficult it is, for a mother,
to give birth to her son
raise him, watch him leave home
watch him serve the world
knowing that he will be killed by this same people
How painful it is to
watch him day in and day out
knowing his fate, his destiny
but yet trusting and believing in him and in God
being present at his execution
knowing all this but having no power to do anything about it
Believing in making God's will be done.
Imagine it, Can you?
Someone lived that life
Have you heard of her?
Angel Gabriel came to Mary saying,
"Hail Mary, full of grace, The Lord is with you"
"You shall have a son and you shall call him Jesus,
For he shall save his people from their sins"
She replied, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word"
She went to visit Elisabeth, her relative
And the holy spirit came upon Elisabeth and she said
"Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus"
Her son was born
Her son dwelled amongst us
He served us, he healed the sick
He paid our debt
We persecuted and killed him alongside criminals
And even on the cross, he forgave his persecutors
How difficult a life that is for a mother to live?
