The Rose Poem by Jasmine Shipp

The Rose

Born in the Land of Ashes with clouds that lie.
Telling lies of beauty while others know the truth.
Born in the Land of Ashes with a rose on his shoulder.
Where did this red rose come from that seeps through skin into his still beating heart?
The Land of Roses I say, the land of love.
With true winds and caring smiles that wear no masks.
He will forever be lost such opportunity to learn this land entirely.
Holding tightly to something so powerful.
So intense that all hatred, and fire, wrath, and wrongs, die a disturbing death.
One so bloody, so appalling, so gruesome, but so engaging.
Something so lovely.
Who knew that a boy born in the Land of Ashes could attain such truth as those native to the world of roses?
Who knew that one so doomed to hatred could have such golden eyes, or such a gentle touch?
Whom would have guessed.
