The Ruse Poem by Vincent Feliciano

The Ruse

Another moment of silence
Gets us lost to the violence
While the dogs of war
Attest this win
To their alchemy of social science

We used to teeter on the brink
But now we're draining down the sink
With just enough time to put ice in our drink
As we say goodbye to the ideas we fought to think
But we'll be gone by the time our glasses clink

See?
I got used to the pain once linked to this chain
But the regret won't let me forget the sense I made
Until I gave it all up
To the mentally mundane... how insane!

There's no use hollering
And no amount of dollaring
That will set us free
Since it was OUR own voice that made US intolerant

Yeah, we got played
By our constant shade
No matter how it stayed our execution
Our full submission was always the mission
Since the time of extradition

All this time I thought
We were the solution
But all I ever earned
Were the wages of retribution

The moment we had
When we thought we won
I see now was just a ruse
To confuse the abused
With a new moment of silence
From the same dogs of war that still foment violence
