The Sami People Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

The Sami People

The Sami People

In lands of ice, where cold winds blow,
A people lived, long, long ago.
Before the maps, before the lines,
They walked the north, in ancient times.

The Sami folk, with hearts so true,
The only ones, officially new.
Indigenous claim, a thousand years,
Their roots run deep, beyond our fears.

Close to the earth, the sky, the snow,
They learned to live, and watched things grow.
The reindeer strong, their lifelong friend,
A way of life, that has no end.

Their clothes tell tales, of family bright,
With colors bold, and patterns right.
A song they sing, a mystic sound,
Where feelings deep, can then be found.

Each year they meet, on sixth of May,
To share their pride, and light the way.
With feasts and games, and stories old,
Their spirit strong, in brave hearts bold.

Though times were hard, and paths were steep,
Their culture lives, its secrets keep.
A vibrant dance, a gentle hum,
Indigenous wisdom, has now come.

Respect for all, the land they hold,
A living story, brave and bold.
The Arctic's voice, beneath the light,
The Sami people, shining bright.
