The Sea Poem by Kirsten Diederichs

The Sea

my soul
was consumed
by the tide
at my ankles
my hips
my throat
the waves became
shadows in my eyes
I watched the hope
I stopped needing
slip away
like shell
that once
lay at my feet
and wonder
what we want hope for
when we are defeated by something
as beautiful as the sky
