The Shade Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Shade

Let me find the shade
and avoid the sun.
Let me find a cloud
for I've come undone.
Let it fit the mood
I find I'm in.
Let me shadow myself
from where I've been.
Sitting in sunlight
with shine in my eyes,
not understanding
that sunlight dies.

Let me feel the shade
and wait for the rain.
Let me feel its wetness
to wash away pain.
Let it drench my body
and my soul.
Let me recover my sense
of being whole,
resting in grayness
with sorrow within
always asking myself
is happiness sin?
