The Shadow That Follows Me Poem by Marc Woolley

The Shadow That Follows Me

There is a shadow that follows me
why I know not but I feel I know why.
It stalks me every waking second
am I mad, should I seek help it is always so far away so I think I won’t
but I still hide whenever I see it

There is a man that stalks me wherever I go.
He hides behind bushes, trees, and all manner of vegetation when he sees me
he is very bad at hiding-I hunted him down with ease
I tried to talk to him but he ran and screamed some nonsense
I think I’ll return to this road to talk to him again

There is this demon that stalks me wherever I go
He tried to get me a day ago but I was too fast
Sharpened teeth grinning with glee and cloaked in an unholy shade of black
Eyes black as the deep, dark night and still somehow as bright the moon
I caught a terrifying glimpse of him behind my neighbor’s car this night
I can’t sleep anymore

There is this shy man who stalked me wherever I went
now I stalk him. I hope we can be friends but they always despise me
I think he does too
He’ll call the man that chants the strangest words to ask me to leave
I respect their wishes-I am not a rude person even if I wish to remain
I will speak to him tomorrow morning to make amends that are clean

The thing that stalks has died.
It was standing by my car-it had something shiny
in its clawed hand-It could've been a knife,
running as fast as I could I recall hearing a horn.
the thing that stalked is on the road, gasping for the air to mutter its last words
it haunts me what it said to this moment: “Are we friends n.o..w...” handing me a sliver flower.

Dark and wordy. Good imagery to work on. Good poems are worth another tweak.
