The Silent Witness Of Manipur Poem by Bharat Thiyam

The Silent Witness Of Manipur

The silent witness of Manipur
The age-old tree of Kangla
It has seen kings come and go
It has seen war, peace, joy and sorrow.
But still it stands —

Someone, long ago, planted this tree —
Planted with a dream and hope
Knowing the decades to grow
Knowing its shade will not bestow shade upon them,
But still it stands —

The silent witness of Manipur
The age-old tree of Kangla
It is a bridge from yesterday to tomorrow,
It is an invisible line where earth meets sky
But still it stands —

Strong, silent, and deep-rooted in Kangla
Its branches spread out like green wings
Its roots run deep and far
Bearing the memory for all of us

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is dedicated to the age-old tree of Kangla, Imphal, Manipur. For centuries, this tree has silently watched our history — kings, wars, peace, joy and sorrow. It never speaks, but it remembers everything for us. Someone, long ago, planted this tree with a dream and hope, knowing they would never sit in its shade. Yet they planted it for us, for tomorrow. This tree is a bridge from yesterday to tomorrow. It is where earth meets sky. It still stands — strong, silent, and deep-rooted in Kangla — bearing the memory for all of us.
