The Sin Was Mine Poem by Godfrey Machuka

The Sin Was Mine

God, it’s the lovely creature you created
Who me too has netted
Her handshake accompanied with a seductory itch
And those watery eyes begging for my consent
Affix me in this monkey-ous situation

You see Lord, I never saw it this way
That ‘just’ a peck on this hot blooded damsel
Could result to the coveting you detest
But it’s her who held longer
When first our lips and hips locked.

I really wanted out before I could even want in
But her fair looks and that heart throbbing stare
The fine exterior that teased my canal passion
The perennial lie that the first time will be the last
Now glues me in this sweet-shameful prison

Even as I writhe in self-condemnation
My heart forever yearns for the prior innocence
That is now receding into oblivion
And the molten red sin forever fastened in my sight
Leaves me clutching air in an empty grasp

So Lord when that time indeed comes
Remember I confessed my wayward schemes
When it will be revealed to the goat’s owner
Please let them know I was weak in taming my appetite
And as the stolen flesh rots away in my tummy
I will forever admit the sin was mine.
