The Sleep In Poem by Kylie Hutchings

The Sleep In

There's a very tricky concept
That I don't get
Though I try
When they wake me in the morning
And in my bed I lie
It's warm and comfy there
All tangled in the covers
I hear the world has woken
But that's just for the others
I move my feet
I roll and stretch
Then cuddle in real tight
I should be right to climb on out
I've been in here all night
But the pillow’s soft my space is warm and the air outside is cold
I hear the voices calling 'Mum' but I'm not feeling sold
So I close my eyes and drift back off
And focus on that dream
The one where I am on the beach
And he's rubbing in the cream
I can feel the sun it warms me so
Then my dream it turns to dread
As I jolt awake to noisy kids
Jumping on my bed
So the moral of the story
To avoid sleep in interruptions
Let the kids sleep at their grandparents
And enjoy the repercussions.
