The Sleepy Old Owl Poem by Clive Blake

The Sleepy Old Owl

The sleepy old owl
Watched the water-fowl,
As some moorhens floated by.

The ducking ducks dived
Where the cute coots thrived,
The fox looking on from the dry.

The sleepy old owl
Watched the fowl as well,
As more moorhens floated by.

The dragonflies flapped
Where the greedy pike snapped,
A heron looked down from on high.

The sleepy old owl
Watched the ripples swell,
As even more moorhens floated by.

Then a mournful song
From a lonesome swan,
Caused all to take to the sky.

The sleepy old owl
Then took off as well,
And no more moorhens floated by …
