The Smiles I Smiled Poem by Diipo Fagbolu

The Smiles I Smiled

As night falls
The memories of your cheeky smiles
And the smiles I smiled in return
Come slowly to roost
On the artery of my soul

And on my sleeping eyes
A constant smile lies awake
Leading me through dreamland
Unto the shining brightness
of a new dawn

When once again
The little fingers of the rising sun
Caresses my skin to the reality
Of the shadows of your absence
And the echoes of your silence
