The Smiling Brittany Rose Poem by Francis Duggan

The Smiling Brittany Rose

She came to live in this Southern Land in the year two thousand and two
A woman in her early twenties with brown hair and eyes of blue
A young woman from the Celtic World in Brittany in France
And she is such a happy soul and she loves to sing and dance

But in this sunny Southern Land she wil not grow old and gray
As nostalgia it is in her heart for her Homeland far away
And she will return to her Homeland now that Spring is over there
And the old green fields of Brittany their flowers of Nature wear.

Her accent is so beautiful and her English is quite good
Though she has to speak slowly for herself to be understood
To from where she came from to this Land has a different way of life
And for one lucky Celt from Brittany she will make a good wife.

For to smile to her comes easy and she has warmth in her hello
And it truly can be said of her that she has the inner glow
Yet for one of such great beauty she does not show conceit
And people who are like her are always nice to meet.

Above the fields of Brittany the swallows chirp and fly
And the skylark he is carolling a small speck in the sky
And on the old shed rafters the sparrows make their nests of hay
And her date set for departure she will be home by May.

Like a breath of fresh air to this town the smiling Brittany
Rose
And we will miss her and her charm but that's life I suppose
She is going home to her Celtic World to her kin and family
And they will welcome her back home far north in Brittany.
