The Smoked Heart Poem by Asma Khan

The Smoked Heart

I can understand
you are drifting away
slowly and gradually
calling it a day

It was never
a deal nor condition
to appose what was
in fate and wasn't given

Walking miles past
my dreams, I found out
you are not around
even if I wail or shout

You broke my heart
so badly and
left me to search
for you blindly

What joy one
can find in this pain
it's hard to comprehend
and neither can I explain

I miss you each day
everywhere I go
I wish you were
a mere cloud of smoke
on which I could blow!
