The snowman came today,
knocking on my door.
It was late—
I thought to let him in.
Not knowing when dawn might break,
I opened every door,
each portal eased wide,
as if warmth could hold him long.
The night pressed cold against the glass,
so I tasted winter in the air.
The moon held its last fragile thread—
a silver medallion, fading,
suspended between departure and return.
The house creaked lightly,
like an old man drifting through dreams,
each door a threshold,
a quiet mark on midnight's hidden map.
I moved within the hush,
shadows folding into shadows,
every doorway unveiling the path—
hope stirring softly,
while doubt whispered near.
Beyond the veil of stars,
dawn stretched its pale hands.
Hinges groaned like ancient gates,
a day half-formed,
not yet ready to emerge.
I waited for him—
in the stillness that births all things.
I stepped outside—
but by the time I found the snowman,
he had already melted into the earth.
