The Sound Of Desperation Poem by Isabelle Parkes

The Sound Of Desperation

Rating: 5.0

This is the sound of desperation
The sirens and explosions
Complicated emotions
This is the hoping and needing
The crying and pleading
This is the sound of our situation
And what it looks like to me

All the leading leaders who lead us to death and defeat,
Are so blinded by the promises they’ve all failed to keep,
They’ve got time on their hands and it looks like blood
They’ve put food in our bellies and it tastes like mud
While forgotten ones forget their names
And no one wants to take the blame

“Go son, serve your country,
You’ll be a hero in the end, ”
Go do your patriotic duty
Your motherland depends
On you and hundreds others like you,
With your little bit of training
And a pocketload of prayin’
It’s unlikely that you’ll get through

Mothers, accept the gracious offer
Of the flag they put upon his coffin
In the hope it will console you
In the hope your patriotic
Sense of duty’s still alive

[We know it probably isn’t]

All we hear is this complaining
From people who are saying
That it’s all gone wrong, we know it has,
And at this rate we don’t stand a chance
Of changing first to second glance

I want to hear suggestions
And teach them all a lesson
So angels of the darkest corners
Send in all your sons and daughters

Wave your banner, sing your song,
Know that it will not be long
‘Til one man stands up in the crowd
And tells us what it’s all about
Give us meaning to this purpose and a place to run and hide
Let people make it better, have them answer all our cries

See it on their faces,
Through the windows in their places,

The realisation’s hitting home,
Slowly changing all you’ve known,
This is a joke, a lie, unfair as I
Can possibly imagine,
See them form the crowds they used to hate
And slap away the hand of fate,
Watch them ignore the things that you say
Watch them work so hard to make you pay

Can you hear them choking on the lies they have been fed?
Can you hear the throbbing of the blood they never bled?
Can you hear the mothers praying for the return of all their sons?
Can you hear the people cheering for the battles they have won?

Can you hear the sound of desperation?
It’s taking over our nation,
And I don’t wonder why, do you?
I don’t wonder why, do you?
