The voice of the drum calls to me
From the place where he once stood
"Lo! My heritage is lost forever
And now my metal is wood"
The voice of the drum calls to me
"I plea return me to my place
My bowels once filled with chants of praise
Is now filled with emptiness of space"
The voice of the drum calls to me
"My son shall thou be wise?
The tune of the piano will bring destruction
With blood and pain before your eyes"
The voice of the drum sends his words
To Africa his long lost bride
Who left him for the crafty piano
And now she is blinded from his pride
The voice of the drum calls us all
But still we refuse to hear
Enchanted by the tunes of the piano
And so he beats alone in despair.
