The Struggle To Stay Alive Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Struggle To Stay Alive

THE STRUGGLE TO WRITE A FEW LINES

The struggle to write a few lines
Is the struggle to stay alive

Silence is the death of the poet

The death will come
No matter what is done

But in life there is the need to be alive
A few lines
Just a few lines to stay alive

And then to go on living
As if one were real and somehow meant something.
