The Sun Poem by Kevin Patrick

The Sun

Rating: 5.0

Throw all your hardships, to the wind
And follow the shade of the moon
for anytime there comes a dawn
And roll those blinds from your face

And all those years swept in haste
Soon so young and now so old
know that this life is only a song
now you can sip her melody

and though the night pierces the soul
There'll reign supreme a golden equinox

so go put on your warmest slacks
there's no time to waste this century
now when the leafs are so young
taste the crisp mists of morns delight

And though I'' walk this path alone
I shall be sheltered by the light

yet overhead, skies are shrouds
and ghosts linger on
and then you feel a warming breeze
and you look towards the rising east
you let go of all your fears
all the rage of distant years
and the light creeps on your face
to embrace your greatest days

For Now the new day has come
where good men need never fear
Happily in the eternal days
where there is hope and faith
Hand in hand we sing life's song
all together beneath the sun

I had to read this several times. This is terrific, Kevin. I keep going back to the metaphor of the sunrise as metaphor for rebirth or a new start, or a new opportunity. There's a great undercurrent of optimism that makes this an exceptional work.
