The Sun,
Adorned in golden armor,
Blazing like a general set for battle,
A golden conqueror
Scorching all in its path.
I'm parched now;
Its teeth bite into my skin,
Seeping through cloth and bone,
Wringing out my strength
Like a hand twisting water from fabric.
I'm worn now,
Exhausted and heaving,
Dragging my feet across the day
Each step heavier than the last,
Like a man carrying hours on his back,
Seeking refuge in the shadows of the trees.
As the dry wind passes,
It whispers no comfort,
Only dust and the echoes of heat
Lingering where the cool of shade should be.
My thoughts, slow and scattered,
Not racing, not loud,
Just drifting like tired birds
Searching for somewhere to land.
All I want now
Is the quiet of my room,
The soft surrender of my bed,
To lay down this day and let it go.
With visions of the coast flooding my mind,
Longing for the pull of the tide;
I would prefer a cool mist to a dry heat.
