The Tall One Poem by tallulah montegue

The Tall One

The tall one fled the land of his father's birth
Fled he did from the wrath of his father who knew no mirth
Across the seas he sailed
Through wind and gale
To the land of Raleigh's Eldorado

Through the jungles of the South
He toiled on plantations at the river's mouth
Went wild, drank until drunk, had a ball no doubt
Wanderlust on the tall one took hold
To the jungle he looked for gold
But on hardship his heart was not sold

Off he went again, the tall one
Further and further he travelled
Deeper and deeper into the country he went
As if driven by a force he was sent
To learn of the beauty of nature's marvel
At wide open spaces where man and beast are free
Free to choose, free to be
Free to think, free to do
Free to say, free to be he

The tall one was happy to be
Free! Free at last
In the land of the wild Eldorado
A land his father did not know
Free from the land of his father's birth
Free from the old one who knew no mirth
