The Task At Hand Poem by Jefrey Smith

The Task At Hand

the task at hand

Lost in a moment
my focus gets hazy
gathering momentum
I start feeling crazy
or maybe I'm just feeling lazy

Looking for an answer
for a question I forgot
spinning in a new direction
it seems to be what I sought
but I'm still just as lost

Returning to a memory
of a time that went to fast
I still remember a future
that was always in my grasp
but it's like the unanswered question
I never thought to ask
I guess I assumed it would always last
But I became consumed
and put my hand to another task

Now I'm in this moment
and the momentum carry's me
And though I may lose focus
I don't have to lose the memory
And though the questions remain unanswered
at least I remembered that I forgot to ask
And I don't get consumed
by what I assumed
because what I know is
I don't always have to understand
I just have to focus on the task at hand
