The Thief. Poem by Tony Adah

The Thief.

A man went in to have
An illicit affair with his friend's wife
When he was discovered
He ran into a yam barn
Where he was caught
And brought before the village court.

In his words of lament he said,
I do not know what to tell you folks
That I committed adultery
Or I stole some yams
Words fail me
And my mouth is dry!
