The Travel of the Wise Men

Traveling one starry night
Three kings journeyed by a bright star’s light
To Bethlehem it was foretold
By the prophets from of old
That a new king would appear
The son of God so dear
Mary’s baby so meek and mild
Herod never thought it’d be a child

Herod was the king of Jews
His power he was afraid to loose
Herod met the wise men three
They told him of the king to be

Herod asked “On your return,
Come and see me that I may learn
Where this king is to be found
So that I might witness the babe be crowned”

The wise men resumed their expedition
Nothing could deter them from their mission
To Bethlehem they did arrive
And found the babe lying deep inside
A manger that was damp and gray
The babe was sleeping in the hay

The bright star blazed bright in the sky
Above the manger they could not deny
Since the stars’ rays had shown as golden
This was the place that the new King had chosen

When the shepherds came they stood in awe
All were stunned at what they saw
The glory of his wondrous face
So innocent and full of grace

The Magi arrived and had no doubt
This was the King they read about
Their hearts overflowed with joy
Gazing at the baby boy
They presented him with precious treasure
That had value beyond measure
Frankincense, myrrh and gold
For royalty, priestly honor, and a death foretold

After homage they did pay
An angel came to them to say
“Please return by another way
To the east from which you came
So the baby may remain
Safe from Herod’s evil plan
For though the babe be God, He is also man
