The Truth About Lies Poem by Amity Kay

The Truth About Lies

Lie to me
tell me that I'm different
Lie to me
tell me that I'm just like them;
Lie to me
coax a stupid smile out of me
and then you're halfway in.

You never did mean
a damn thing
you said, did you?

You always used to tell me
that I'm beautiful,
You used to always tell me
the sweetest things
the sweetest way;
You left me wanting you
with every word you'd say...
...but you never did mean
a damn thing
you said, did you?

You said you never cared
You said to hell with me
You said you never wanted to be with me anyway;
You said the sweetest things the sweetest ways
to her
as I was wishing my life away.
.....but you never did mean
a damn thing
you said. Did you?
