The Tunnel Poem by Terry Dunham

The Tunnel

Rating: 5.0

The Tunnel

What sediment has fallen on my soul;
What chains are wrapped, keeping hope away.
No laughter, no song, no glory.
What’s wrong?
This test is momentary, light affliction.
But still the weight feels real.
Is it?
Or is my mind the enemy?
The word says “Rejoice always.”
I’m not now.
Responsibility becomes worry too easily.
Pain of heart overlaps my hope.
The end looks dark.
Muffled words of dread and fear
speak from the tunnel.
“Come to me, I’m waiting”, it taunts.
“You’re mine forever!
Forever!
I will not release you”!
